Upon arriving in Germany, I did not know any online German-French dictionary. Needless to say I was not willing to carry my printed edition everywhere and had to find a remedy to my predicament.
The first resource I actually used was dict.cc for its very large content but that happened to be… German-English. It’s good, but out of line here.
What else have we got? The ones I’d recommend:
Of course, bab.la – I worked a lot on that dictionary and it has become quite a good resource over the years. It has a decent amount of entries, smooth design and constantly evolving.
I am a huge fan of PONS – very nice dictionary, quite reliable, loads of translation… hardly anything bad to write about it, if at all.
LEO… I have mixed feelings about LEO. It’s possibly the first French-German online dictionary there ever was, yet it’s not reliable enough. It is missing many words, relying on forum results makes me feel uncomfortable, the layout looks so 80s… Far from being perfect, but always handy to have up your sleeve.
Larousse is my least favourite – see two posts ago why, same reasons apply.
Alternatively, I find Wikipedia to have brought me out of dead ends when I could not find anything, especially when it comes to technical terms, such as flower names, mechanical spare parts, etc.
Do you know any other French-German dictionary worth using (or worth slagging off?)
